I'm not really into the demon/vamp/angel scene like that but this book was amazing from beginning to end and I'm irritated the the second Black Rayne book is not available...I don't like waiting...LOL...but I digress the chemistry between Rayne and Demetri was awesome and his brother Maurisio is off the chain with his chargin...I read this book in less than 24hrs! I could not put it down. It's well written and has an amazing plot to it. Sidenote there are some sex scenes that are really different so if you faint of heart and not into otherwordly things and such this book ain't for YOU...The characters speak their mind and they do just what they say, no holds barred and some of the conversations hade me blushing and this is a book! LOL...Loved it can't wait for the second installment!!Product details

Up front I was tired of every heroine in my romance novels (supernatural or otherwise) being pale or having a tan with long, flowing red/blonde/kissed with natural golden highlights hair (or, the more subtle approach pink nipples). I know there are women on the beauty spectrum between Anglo and tan. So, when I saw this cover, I had to read this book.
POCs (persons of color) in sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural books are barely existent. In the Romance vein of those genres, POC are almost invisible. It's a standard played out in television and film as well. I'm happy to see there's an effort to remedy that. However, my desire to see POC supernatural romance flourish does not impede my ability to judge it. To the Review!
The Dragon Queen Series follows the story of Rayne, a half-demon, half-angel women living her life in Florida as a pop star of Beyonce/Britney in her hayday proportions. She is the Queen of Heaven... or Hell.. or just a really powerful eemon...demon-angle?... I'm not sure, and she doesn't know either. Literally. She thinks she's going insane from all the stress of touring and the visions of girls being murdered; and, oh yeah, the desire to drink blood.
Her two guardians, water demons appointed to protect her by her battle angel mother, don't help the process by not telling her anything. Even when they know she's in danger, or could be a danger to others, they continue to keep her in the dark; hoping her mate will come along to help her through the transition into full demon-angel form. You aren't quite sure if they don't help he acclimate to this knowledge because her mother said not to, or because they just didn't know what the F to do.
Ultimately, the annoyance with her guardians' ineptitude and Rayne's bouts of insanity/blood lust go away when her mate, Demetri the demon vampire who slays other demons and humans headed to Hell, appears and starts to teach her about her powers and who she is. From there, the story improves.
Pain and sex go hand-in-hand in this series. There's also a distinctive lack of self control on the part of the main heroine. I empathize because she literally has another being coming alive inside her, but her guardians not helping her deal with this made me dread the parts of the book that feature Rayne without Demetri.
Fair warning There is A LOT of sex and "urban dialect". I'm not from Florida. So, maybe this dialect is common there; but, it was a bit difficult to read at times. I don't mind slang, but some words required context clues for me to follow...or I just skipped over them. Also, a penis that inches into you like a snake. No. Not hot.
Review Summary Loved the diversity. Interesting take on the supernatural and its place in the Heaven/Hell dichotomy. This is definitely a God (big "G" novel), and will probably prove to be Christian as the series progresses. (Update Having read the other books, I'm pretty sure it's leaning towards Catholicism.) The books read like the first script of a film series; and, while that means it moves slowly, it provides thorough introductions to locations, characters, and motivations.
Designing Love
The Story was very well told. It is an exciting ride that will keep you on your toes. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would like to see a spin off book with Maurisio and his wolf pack.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.fill with lots of action and just the right amount of hot sex. Can't wait for part two
I overall liked the book. However I felt there were too many and too long sex scenes. But the storyline is intriguing. There's a lot of potential for it to be a good series.
I could not put the book down! I love how the author made all the characters important to the story! Can't wait to read the next one!
This was a great start to this series. I couldn't put it down, it made sense and kept me entertain. This author made every character seem important which made me want more from all character, which is rare. I can't wait for the next book, I'm so excited.
This book delivered all that one could imagine!!! My husband hated that the book was SOOOO good because I paid him no attention!! I finished the whole thing in 1 day because I didn't want to put it down. Very well written with vivid passages that have you picturing yourself in the mist of battling demons & being ravished by sexy vampires!!! Ohh Yess!!!! Definitely looking forward to the sequel as well as anything else this author puts out. Outstanding!! Reccommending to my Book Club.
